I'm very new to ESX and ESXi. I'm trying to convert a running server (really a Dell PC) to a VM that will run on ESXi (we're in testing phase, about to move all real servers to ESX or ESXi if we like it). After doing a conversion on the live server, using the agent option in VMware vCenter Coverter Standalone version 4.0.0, I get the following error when trying to edit the VM for "clean up" after this P2V conversion.
An IDE controller is found but the virtual machine does not support the option
ESXi is version 4.
Any ideas? Google is of no help for that exact error.
Try using the newest Converter, 4.0.1, instead.

Hi.
I've the same problem.
Have you solved the issue?
Thanks
Hi,
When you are converting.. just edit the hard disk and change from preserve source to scsi .. it will resolve your issues..
basically the server will support only scsi based paritions not ide based.. thats reason you are getting this error.
OK!
It works.
Thanks.
