Hello,
I am very new to this technology and could use some help. I am running a VMware ESXI 5.0.0 server with currently only 3 virtual machines.
1. Novell 3.12 server
2. Dos 6.22 IPX workstation for remote control by REACHOUT over IPX
3. Dos 6.22 IPX/IP workstation for remote control by TINY over IP
Currently I am only testing. I am not even running the Novell system, as we are still on our stand alone NOvell 3.12 server.
The problem is that in doing some benchmark testing the VMware workstation is about 3x slower than an old stand alone workstation. I am attaching to the server via client 32 with the PCNTNW.Lan driver.
Any questions or ideas WILL be apreciated.
I did read on an old thread here that I could enable dual core processing of the workstation, but I can't figure out how to do that.
Thanks
Mike
Hi.
How are you doing the benchmarks? Due to how interrupts work in a virtual machine old benchmarks should not be trusted.
Is there any visible slowdowns compared to your other enviroment?

Thanks for reply
The benchmark I am doing is a common function we do. It is called a recovery of a database. It bascically requests all of the data from the server to the workstation on about a 5 meg database. It resorts it and resaves it. This function takes 22 seconds on a P3 450MHZ physical workstation and it takes 66 seconds on the VMware workstation.
Much Success
I found an old post here from 2007 where someone said to enable dual core processors. I did it and it took my 66 seconds down to 28. Fantastic. If anyone has any ideas on how to get even more, let me know.
Thnaks
Mike
Did you check your CPU load of the DOS-VM? If not you will see a 100% utilization. In this case you nead a tool called DOSIDLE.EXE. Add the tool to your autoexec.bat http://www.emanuelis.eu/2010/10/01/how-to-make-ms-dos-6-22-to-stop-consuming-100-cpu-in-virtualbox-o... CU
Please post the vmware.log file for the DOS guest (use the advanced editor and post it as an attachment).
