ESXi 5.0 - Shutting down server via APC UPS

Hi,

I have 3 VMs on the esxi server and the esxi server is connected to an APC UPS. I have the usb port on the UPS connected to a win7 physical pc.

When there's a power outage, the batch script that I created sends a command to the 3 VMs for shutdown. The VMs get shutdown but how do I get the esxi 5.0 host to shutdown as well?

Also, if a user wants to physically shutdown the esxi 5.0 box because of power outage, can they do this as well or do I have to give them admin login for the esxi host console?

Thanks

There are several scripts for shutdown hosts & vm's (f.e. VMWare PCNS ESXi 5.0 Free License shutdown with APC PCNS 3.0 vMA 5 or  shutdownHostViaSOAPAPICall.pl for ESX(i) licensed and free version )

So you can install VMware Perl SDK on your Windows 7 (which connected to APC) and configure script solutions from links above.
