Very slow booting from ESXi 5 DVD

Hi,

I just wanted to gage the time it takes for others to boot a server from an ESXi 5 DVD. So far the 3 tests I've done its taken approximately 1 hour 5 minutes just to boot from the DVD, not to do the actually install, it takes 1 hour 5 minutes to get to the initial install menu.

The host I'm using is a rackmount HP ProLiant DL580 G5 (4 socket - 6 cores per socket each) with 64GB of memory. If tried 2 different G5's. Using the iso: VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.0.0-469512.x86_64.iso

Can anyone else comment how long it takes for your servers to boot from DVD....

Thanks!

Did you use the same dvd on all your servers?

Could you please boot from this dvd on any other client or server with other hardware?

I wonder if I am having the same problem. It hangs on loading /s v.00, but I have not been patient enough to let it ride. I will try that next.

Not sure what the issue was, but after setting up UDA and creating an ESXi 5 profile, it now boots in about 2 minutes with the UDA. I will not longer use an ISO.

Thanks!

Yeah UDA is the Ultimate Deployment Appliance. Just a machine you import, configure and it allows for PXE booting and rebuilding of hosts.

I was able to install the IBM customized version of ESXi5 by creating a bootable USB with the install. The install still paused at load /s v.00, but eventually continued and I was able to successfully install.
