How does the NetApp “Virtual Storage Console” plugin for VMWare vCenter Operate?

<![endif]><![if gte mso 9]>

We are setting up several new vmware environments. The VM’s will be

accessed and ran over NFS. If you use the NetApp Virtual Storage

Console plugin to set the NFS settings everything does work. What I do not

understand is that if you look at an ESX server that you have configured with

the VSC for NFS that esx server does not have the necessary 111 or 2049 ports

open in it’s firewall nor is the nfsClient running. How does this

work? I have looked at all the VSC docs ( the ones available at the

download site ) and NetApp and vSphere Storage Best practices and I

cannot find any further information.

I have a concern regarding this. If the VSC plugin for VMWare

vCenter fails or someone inadvertantly uninstalls it – does that mean however

it makes the connection to the NFS storage then stops working? -Thx Gary

You can set the recommended values on the host--> software --> advanced settings--> NFS . VSC makes the same change on the ESX host, just through a different interface.  So the adapter settings etc will remain good.
