Hi Techies,
Kindly let me know the Backup softwares being used in Large Scale Production environments and if any documentations available. Kindly update
Since VMware introduced VADP, most major backup software vendors implemented VMware backup in their products. However, IMO the leading two backup solutions are still Veeam Backup and Quest (formerly Vizioncore) vRanger. You can find all information you need on their websites.

a.p., from what I've researched online, you basically always want to use a third-party backup solution like Veeam or vRanger, right? You never want to depend solely on VDR for your backups. What's your opinion of VDR?
Don't get me wrong, I don't intend to promote any products. VDR may be used in small environments where its features (and limits) are sufficient to meet the requirements. However if you need a more granular configuration and advanced features for backup and restore, there's currently no way around enterprise backup applications.

I didn't mean to imply that your were promoting products. Not at all. Actually, I appreciate your candor. Thanks for the advice.

IBM Tivoli can be the good backup tool for virtual machine backup

VADP support is available in many backup products now. In enterprise environments, the retention requirements go much beyond short time needs. Here is my take on it. http://communities.vmware.com/blogs/MrVray/2012/02/18/where-do-i-download-vadp
Best wishes!
Full disclosure: I work for Symantec. But the comments in the blog are my own.

We use Veeam Backup and Replication with the combination of ArcServe Replication and High Availability. The issue with veeam is that it cannot see "pass-through disks" and that is why we combined it with Arcserve. But overall, Veeam works very well with our environment. It even has the capability to point to your vCenter and gather all the vm's registered on it. Pretty neat for me.
*note, I also do not promote Veeam nor Arcserve. We actually have 3 layers of protection, the last layer is Microsoft Data Protection Management (DPM).
This one is providing nice backup facalities...
ShadowProtect Server provides the following backup and disaster recovery benefits:

Veeam Backup and Replication for us...
I also believe it has won the best backup product at VMworld for many years running if im not mistaken...
Yeah. What I liked about Veeam is how it is optimized for off-site DR replication and throttling of replication speed through WAN.
I’malso along the same line who are proposing Veeam Backup and Replication. We have been using it for years, and it never let us down being efficient and reliable solution for both backup and replication tasks.
Needless to say, we’re more than excited with the new features and enhancements that the upcoming version does have:
Cheers.
Not sure if you guys have seen this but here are the 9 webinars focused on the new features coming in Veeam Backup & Replication v7 - v7 webinar series
Ch1ta,
Veeam B&R v7 is was released last week. Have you had a chance to download it and test out the new features?
