Hey There,
We are looking at putting in a new data protection product in our environment? Looking at Enterprise solutions. Is there any one that is considered best? What to you like/disklike about your current enterprise backup software.
Seems to me that Avamar, CommVault, and NetBackup seems to be the more prevelantin the industry.
Thanks in advance.

I think this may be a tough question to answer, as the answer really needs to come from what fits your environment. I can see we demoed Veeam, PHD, TSM and a few others. Ultimately for us, our needs, and ease of use, we chose PHD.
It might be tough to answer and you're right it depends on our environment. Just trying to get an idea of what is working out there and what is not so I don't spin my wheels in my evaluation.
It's like asking everyone "what is the best car in the world?"...My first reaction to this question will be "What do you want from a car?".
Likewise, when it comes to data protection, my first question to you is "What is your RPO and RTO? && Virtual or Physical? Windows or Linux or Netware or Unix or some other OS like OS X?" etc. etc. etc.... Based on the answers to these, you will narrow your search for the solution and you can begin your objective (not subjective) search and evaluation.
So far, we like Veeam version 6 for Virtual environment and ShadowProtect for physical Windows servers.
Good luck.
we proposed a lot of commvault for enterprise backup due to it's integration with SAN level snapshot as well as one platform for backup, archiving, search, content indexing ..
This certainly depends on your data requirements and how sensitive your data is. Products like TSM will give you a great insight into your data. It also very much depends on the industry you are in. For example if you deal with a lot of sensitive credit card information you may need to be PCI compliant which in itself if a data protection endavaor. For this it's best to search out well established companies such as IBM who can assist in creating a data protection solution. It all depends on the larger picture and how much you are willing to invest. There will always be cheaper quick fix solution but with the data protection especially if there are sensitive information you should seek out a well established vendor with some clout behind their name.
hi,
i think you should go for VADP. but it will only work if your vspere is 5.0 or higher.
Hi Jatenderupes,
VADP is not a backup product in itself. It is a set of APIs. Moreover, VADP is available since vSphere 4.0. See my community blog on VADP here: http://communities.vmware.com/blogs/MrVray/2012/02/18/where-do-i-download-vadp

In my opinion, I would choose Symantec's NetBackup. Tried and tested. We have deployed this product from small to large enterprise and we rarely have a fault call with this product. Though among the rest, I think this is more expensive.
I have foud this one ...
