ESX 5.0 has cannot configure TimeZone.

Hello.

Is anybody has successfully reconfigured TimeZone in ESX5.0?

My ESX5.0 has no /etc/sysconfig/clock and /usr/share/zoneinfo files. Therefor I cannot reconfigure TimeZone in ESX5.0 like:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1436

My ESX current timezone is other from my region. Therefor when I restart VMs it always changed time. However I was configured VMs not sync from esx host. But this is working failure. When i was change ESX host time from wmware client then my VMs time changed automatically(I think it is bug).

Does anyone know how to change the TimeZone in ESX5.0?

Thanks

ESXi uses UTC time zone and this can not be changed

So basically ESXi starts with this time zone, but looks for the specified NTP server on startup.

I would suggest to setup a NTP server on a physical machine, probably your DNS server or use a online NTP

I figured this one out actually.

A change of the configuration can be done over the vCentre Client -> Select ESX with VSM -> Configuration -> Time Configuration.

I think you mean ESXi5.0, not ESX 5.0.

Please refer http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1436

ESXi

ESXi uses UTC time and does not support changing time zones.

In ESXi 3.5, you see the message:

Note: The date and time of the host have been translated to the local time of this VI Client.

In ESXi 4.0, you see the message:

Note: The date and time of the host have been translated to the local time of this vSphere Client.

In ESXi 4.1, you see the message:

Note: The date and time of the host have been translated to the local time of this vSphere Client.

Hi,

To set the time from vSphere Client check with this options:-

  1. Launch vSphere Client.
  2. Go to Configuration > Time Configuration > Properties.
  3. Input the correct Time and Date.
  4. Click Options.
  5. Click Restart on the Service Commands box.
