VMware View 4.6 v Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1

Good Evening,

After alot of searching on the web, i am unable to locate a resources which clearly states whether Windows 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 is supported for View 4.6.

We are currently facing an issue where after the installation of Service pack 1, it has been speculated, and not confirmed, that the Connection Brokers are now failing the recomposing activity. This is currently failing with an error message of 'Recomposer Task Halted', and that's about all the details we get.

Can someone please advise or point me in the direction of a KB article which states:

1. Is Services Pack 1 supported or not supported within View 4.6?

2. Is this a reported and know issue?

3. Is there a hosfix if its a known issue or a workaround?

4. Is there anyone out there running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service pack 1 installed without issues?

I cant believe that there is no one out there with this configuration.

All of the articles i havd read just say N/A for SP1, as what i can find was posted the day of release of SP1 or a few days later, no further updates available.

I have been truggelling with this for weeks now, and i can not get a straight answer from anyone.Smiley Sad If anyone can assist i would be most greatful.

Thank you

Hi,

On the View 4 course I recently attended it is written down in black and white that the following are supported for use as connection brokers:

Windows 2003 32bit SP2

Windows 2003 32bit R2 SP2

Windows 2008 64bit R2

ie SP1 is not there, so that would infer that it is NOT supported.

Regards

Stuart

Hi ebernard,

Initially we had Windows Server 2008 R2 without SP1, and we deployed services pack 1 to the servers. We installed SP1 on the connection Broker Server and the Virtual Centre Server. Now, when we try to recompose, it is no longer working and is giving out an error of "Recomposer Task Halted".

Do you know if SP1 can run on a connection Broker server?

No, it is installed on a base Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server with location of Australia\English.

Thank you

Can you check if the Composer is still enabled on your vCenter Server properties in "View Configuration/Servers" menu from View Admin Console ? Is is ok in View Dashboard ? No others errors ?

Recomposer "task halted" is relative to View Composer, and both W2K8 and W2K8 R2 with and w/o SP are supported, so, sounds like more Composer related issue.

You can find more details about recomposer task halted here :

Hope you can find stuff there !

We have finally tracked down the issue and here is the answer to the problem:

We have a total of 8 connection Brokers in the environment, only 6 of those were patched with SP1 and 2 remained unpatched. We removed the 6 out of the pool and there was no issue. We then put the 6 back into the pool with SP1 and removed the two without service pack and this also was not an issue.

So, the problem is not SP1 but rather all servers in the pool need to be at the same SP1 patch level. Patching the two servers with SP1 has resolved the problem and there are no further issues.

I still cant get an answer for SP1 from VMWare and i cant find any documentation for view 4.6 which states it is supported with SP1. Link provided here in is for view 5.0 and the argument is given that its not for the correct version.

If anyone knows of a link or the answer for View 4.6 specifically please let me know.

Thank you
