QUADStor evaluation thread

Hi all,

the QUADStor software is a storage virtualization stack that delivers thin provisioning, deduplication, compression and VAAI support(!) for free.

I have written a detailed article on my blog about the software, and I am currently evaluating it as a storage solution for VMware vSphere.

With this thread I want to
a) make more people aware of this solution, and
b) offer an opportunity for new and existing QUADStor users to share their experience and questions.

So, has anyone here already tried this software and/or is actually using it?

Thanks for your comments
- Andreas

So no high availability, huh?

Too bad Smiley Sad - makes it a non starter for the vast majority of users who would pay for it.

Hmm, not sure what you mean by "high availability" in this context. RAID protection?

This is not built-in, but it can sit on top of (software or hardware) RAID volumes, so I don't see an issue here.

I mean multiple controllers.  E.g, the whole thing is one giant single point of failure.

Matt,

you completely missed the point that we are talking about software here, not hardware. A solution based on this software will be as available as the hardware that runs it. And if the hardware is a VM e.g. availabilty can be quite good.

HA seems to be supported (or was probably available sometime after this thread was created). I have to try it out. The requirement for HA seems to be that both nodes are connected to a shared storage.

However dedupe works great for ESXi datastores.
