Anyone at VMWare actually aware that they broke player with 4.0.2?

Without VM tools, the release is basically useless for creating new vm's.  It's been more than a couple days since the release; presumably they had tools that worked during their testing phase, before release, and just forgot to deploy them to the production servers.  The question is, does anyone at VMWare actually pay enough attention to the free products to notice they broke it?

Or find a link to download 4.0.1.

Previous versions are always available to download...  The 4.x versions are all on the same page... you just have to scroll down.

Depending on how you arrive at the download page, previous versions are not visible at all.

Here, only 4.0.2 is visible,

Just a quick hint: Did you see the "View History" link on the first link you posted?

well d'oh on me.  I saw the link, and assumed it went to the release notes.  silly me.

All setup on 4.0.1, and update notifications turned off =p

Well, as most of us here are not VMware employees, we can't do anything about their download systems, now, can we?

Well, there is no reason to get offended then. Admitting the problem still might help.

Not sure why the tools are not available for download, but if you need them right away you may download an evaluation version of VMware Workstation 8.0.2 and extract the tools from the package, or just install VMware Workstation which includes Player.

It's already been discussed in several threads here in this forum... so *I've* already admitted it.

And person who comes here the first time must read all the previous threads before gettings answer to a simple question asked in the original post. Normal procedure on amateur forums.

I've been around here for quite some time and I can't speak for the others and I too have answer several threads on this issue and all I can say is while I suspect VMware knows there is an issue I personally do not know if they actually do as I've not see one reply from a VMware Employee on this particular issue.

That said, I have to say that your comment "The real problem was nicely dodged there. Really helpful." was totally uncalled for and for that to be the first words out of your mouth after joining the forum tells me everything I need to know about you!
