ESXi 5.0 RAID Issues

I've got a server with LSI 9265-8i RAID, and I was wondering if anyone has had issues with installing ESXi5 on it. When the install looks for the drives it sees no storage to install it on.

According to the HCL, the driver for this RAID controller is not included in the installation and has to be installed manually. You will either have to install ESXi on a supported media (e.g. USB/SD) or create your own installation ISO/CD using e.g. the Image Builder.

Driver location: VMware ESXi 5.0 Driver for LSI MegaRAID SAS Controller

Thanks AP.

I actually created a custom image and I see the driver installed (see attached), but when I go to run the installer it stills sees no local storage to install the ESXi on.

The version of the MegaRAID driver mentioned in the HCL is 5.34. Please add this driver (see link above) to your installation image.

Ah I see, do I just drag and drop the VIB into the depot.zip? Because I keep getting a "Cannot add VIB...not apart of Depot" when I try to do it from the CLI. Sorry this is my first time building a custom image!

There's an easier way mentioned over here, using the new update rollup ISO file, support is now included, or use commands to update your existing install to get 9265-8i support:
