ESXi 4.1 host has yellow triangle in vCenter Server

I finally got vCenter Server up and running, I've been using vSphere Client to talk to 1 ESXi host at a time.  YEA.

Now that I have it working 2 of my 3 hosts have a yellow triangle.  I have ESXi 4.1 and vCenter Server 4.1.  I have looked at "Tasks & Events" and "Alarms" tabs and nothing.  I have disconnected and removed them both and then added back again, nothing.  I have gone through every tab I've got to see if something unusual is happening.  One of them is normal the other did have a VM with high CPU use, but I have since taken care of the runaway process and CPU is back down to about 13%.  I accepted the alarm for the high CPU on the VM and reset it to green.  The status of all the VM's is Normal.  The hosts are yellow. :smileyconfused:

I have run out of ideas where to look.  Why are two of them in some type of warning state?  Where else might I look?

Thank you

Thomas L. Gossard

Hello.

In vCenter, did you create a cluster or what is the organization here?  What licensing do you have?

Good Luck!

No cluster, just 3 individual systems.  We just have a standard VSphere lic.  I think I just found out why they might have the yellow triangle.  I just read if remote ssh is turned on for tech support, a yellow triangle will appear.  This may be the issue.  I will check in the morning when the tech support timeout turns off.

Hello thllgo,

Check if you have a network redundancy in vswitch where is located you Management Port, generally is this.

Additionally you can check this kb.

This is also a possibility.  The one host that is not yellow has two NICs plugged in.  The other two only have one.  I plan on hooking the others up tomorrow.  I will see the the triangle goes away when I do.

As a side note, it would be really nice if VMware were to display in the alerts tab why the triangle is there to begin with.  Something in the SW knows because something is displaying it.

yes, sure is it.

If you see in general tab, you can see a yellow box displaying the message about the console redundancy.

Dont forget to award points if this help.

When I logged in this time as me and not as administrator I see a note under the summary tab for the two hosts with yellow triangles that says

Configuration Issues

Remote Tech Support Mode (SSH) for the host rt-esxi03.devnet.gd.com has been enabled

This didn't display before.  It doesn't say anything about console redundancy, but I will check in the morning when the timeout for ssh is over and I add the extra connection to the two in question.

I checked the systems this morning and it was due to the tech support option being enabled.  By this morning the timeout I set had timeout ssh was disabled and the yellow triangles were gone.  I'm happy once again. :smileysilly:

For everyones help thank you
