Portable tool to gather ESXi server information

Hello,

I am looking for a protable free tool that can gather information of ESXi server sucha as summary details, configuration details etc something like we have for windows systems.

The ESXi information I can gather by login to the server via vSphere Client and write it down but I need some tools that gathers all such information, am supposed to carry out an exercise to survey infrastructure and I do not want to write all the information, preferably a tool that can generate a report as that is more presentable.

Hoping to receive some response soon

I can select the ESXi server and from File tab click on Report option and will get the Host summary report as well as Performance report but somehow am not able to gather all the required information.

You mean something like RVTools? Or (even) more advanced?

(though RVTools isn't really portable of course)

Man RVTools is pretty helpful tool something similar to what I was looking for, will help me out for sure. Thanks for the information

One of my biggest pain points is how to identify actual number of hard drives in a datastore coz most of the tools I have checked all gives information on the size of datastore but none gives information on the actual host hard drives configuration. Most of the time I physically check the hardware but sometimes physical access is not possible and we just have to rely on the logical values of the datastores.

Thanks once again as it really helps me carry out many of my tasks.

You're welcome ...

I don't know of any tools that can do what you ask ... Check the amount of disks in a storage system.

Normally any enterprise level storage worth its salt should have a management interface or at least a means to access it remotely, so physical access isn't always necessary.

I agree on storage management applications but most of such applications would be installed on some systems in the organisation. My job as 3rd party system auditor or reviewer would not be having all storage management applications and thus am having such requirements. Thats why most of the time I ask the IT staff of the company to log into the storage application to verify the storage disk allocations and RAID configurations together with physical checks.

I understand completely ... Maybe someone very clever can create a multivendor tool that logs into every storage device and collects all data ... Though you'll need accounts for that as well of course. We can all dream Smiley Wink
