michgri Nov 21, 2011 1:47 PM (in response to Michelle Laverick)I didn't go through the full thread, but let me say that adding a VMTN license would be a great idea.

214. Re: Bring back VMTN Subscription?
Vitalhostage Nov 23, 2011 12:31 PM (in response to Michelle Laverick)+1 As a seasoned IT professional, the only way I really get to know how something works is the smash lab environment where anything can be broken and probably will, but the only person it causes issue to is myself. I don't have time to tear down labs every 60 days and the potential of having to script an entire environment rebuild just to get to a point of being able to tinker and play seems ludicrous when you consider the whole point of VMWare. Its agility and flexibility at making your life so much easier. I think VMWare need to listen and understand the passion and potential people can and do use their software for on a daily basis. The very fact your paying for the VMTN, as you do with Microsoft and many other vendors, somehow portrays VMWare as slightly indifferent to the value that hobbyists, technical professionals and evangelists alike bring to the contributed value of their products. Surely they must realise if someone is willing to pay a few hundred pounds, they're upper most thoughts might not be just giving something they've paid for away for free? If VMWare don't reinstate their VMTN, its an unfortunate kick in the nuts to people like myself who have invested large quantities of personal time in order to be better with their products by becoming VCP certified. I can see no reason why you wouldn't do such a thing for people who add that kind of value to your products. If the levels of paranoia of piracy mean they're unwilling reinstate the VMTN, then there is something sadly lacking at VMWare in more ways than are possibly realised now, and thats truly understanding their customers and partners needs.

I came to the forums and registered for the first time today to ask this very question. I run a lab environment at home using technet pro software on ESXi hosts. I would love nothing more than to be able to run full versions of vmware so I could learn everything they have to offer.

drehfeldtusa Nov 29, 2011 6:11 PM (in response to Michelle Laverick)I've had a TechNet subscription for years and a VMTN subscription before the program was ended by VMware. I would like to see VMware revive the VMTN subscription for testing and training purposes.

This has got to be up there with MSTN. I'm really peeved that I have to rejig my home lab every 60 days to try new things and keep up to date.

A great incentive for small companies to grow larger. An all-year reference lab without reinstalling every month brings more continuity and increased knowledge.
