30. Re: Bring back VMTN Subscription?
chadwickking Nov 4, 2011 11:44 AM (in response to Michelle Laverick)Man,
This would totally make sense.
Would prevent:
1. Pirating (if thats possible lol)
2. multiple email accounts and redownloads (Annoying)
3. Allow small businesses to take part of developing/testing VMware in some way or capacity.....
Would help:
1. Innovation
2. Market Share
3. Make extra revenue
4. rewarding to some degree for those mentioned that go above and beyond.

Even with Educational licensing - it doesn't cover all the products.
Having a subset of the products available to showcase for a longer period will sow the seeds to adoption.

nitrobass24 Nov 4, 2011 1:41 PM (in response to jirahcox)Also a technet guy here, for my home lab. Would definitely cough up some $$ for a yearly subscription.

FuSiOn4 Nov 4, 2011 2:30 PM (in response to Michelle Laverick)Yes absolutely bring some sort of technet like subscription to VMware. Would be fantastic.

39. Re: Bring back VMTN Subscription?
simonhamiltonwilkes Nov 4, 2011 2:40 PM (in response to FuSiOn4)Agreed. I think 60 day instant-on eval licensing is a good start, but rebuilding every two months is not very practical.
I have access to both the EMC and NetApp virtual appliances; despite being a NetApp guy at heart the EMC one is the one in use in my lab simply because it doesn't timeout.
Don't see how they could make them unlimited in any way though - the unscrupulous would just use them for real, maybe they can do something with the vRAM licensing now though - so you could build two clusters but only have a small enough amount of RAM that it wouldn't be practical for production use.
MSDN has been a great way for MS to build a cadre of admins without having to invest in much marketing, Cisco used to allow the download of any of their code if you had a login, I can't help but think they've shot themselves in the foot by ending that.

RickT666 Nov 4, 2011 3:34 PM (in response to Michelle Laverick)I'd subscribe. I use technet subscription for POC every week.

41. Re: Bring back VMTN Subscription?
itsolutions4you Nov 4, 2011 4:38 PM (in response to Michelle Laverick)This is an sbsolutly essential tool for technology professionals worldwide. Currently we have to resort to 60 day trials and then tear down and rebuild. That is not a good use of time, for evangelists that should be spending their time perfecting advanced installs and proof of concepts.
Please bring it back. We all would pay a resonable fee for the ability to have licensed tools at our disposal.

gurusimrankhalsa Nov 4, 2011 4:49 PM (in response to Michelle Laverick)I wholehartedly agree. Please bring it back. I'd signup in a second.

43. Re: Bring back VMTN Subscription?
juanmarey Nov 4, 2011 5:01 PM (in response to Michelle Laverick)Completely agree! Count me in!
VMTN subscription reinstatement can be a "life changing" event for lot of people. Not every guy that forms the VMware community is lucky enough to have access to the software and NFR licenses as the ones working for the big players, like HP, EMC, or Cisco, or smaller VMware partners which also have similar level of access.
So please Steve bring us back the VMTN subscription!
