Perc 5i battery Status in ESXi 5?

Hi Forum -

I have a Perc 5i with Battery. Version 4.x will show something like "Battery Charging" under the health status if the battery was charging but in version 5 this message is not shown.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Thanks!

I have a server with the perc 5i in it and I will check the CIM agents after installation and get back to you to see if I have the same problem.

I upgrade from ESXi 4.1U1 to 5.0 last night and also noticed this.  On 4.1U1 my Perc 5i card was shown under Health Status>Storage and provide status of all disks, volumes and battery.  On 5.0 there is no Storage catagory at all under Health Status...

It was pretty late so i didn't go to deep into this issue, but i noticed another difference under Health Status>Software Components.  On 4.1U1 the storage controller is listed as "Controller 0 (PERC 5/i Integrated) 5.2.2-0072 (Package); 1.03.50-0461(Fw) 2008-05-21 00:00:00.000", but on 5.0 it was listed as "MegaRAID..." (no longer running 5,0 so don't know exact listing).

Maybe this was changed to allow use with MegaRAID Storage Manager software?

I will do some more testing tonight..

From ESXi 5 onwards the support for the inbox hardware vendor providers i.e providers like the LSI,Qlogic, etc is not present.

To get the PERC 5i battery details in the health status ,the vib corresponding to the controller  manufacturer should be installed. In this case i think the LSI provider vib should be installed.

On installing this vib you can find the details of the battery in both the healt status from VI and the Hardware status Tab of VC.

Also the controller would be listed under Health Status >> Software Components.

Thanks

are you saying you have to download a vib from LSI install it into the ESXi 5 host for this feature to work now?

Has anyone proceeded with this?

I haven't had time to test myself or search for LSI/Dell VIBs...

Hello,

I found the link below which helped resolve most of the hardware status tab information. However, I am now missing the memory information now. So, I am gonna have to figure that one out. I think this maybe due to the fact that I used the VIB packages for his MegaRaid SAS card.

One last note. The battery information was showing "unknown - charging". Left it over night and came back to find that it was green with a status of okay. I

Let me know if anyone needs any help with this though it is pretty straight forward.

Cheers!

Hello,

I have just logged back into vSphere (vCenter) and found that everything was working. All it took was leaving it over night and bam! Working. Smiley Happy

I am very happy that I am able to see all of the hardware status information now. Hope this works out for everyone!

Cheers,

Tom

Check if you have the lates firmware.

Also install OMSA to see if the battery is really charging or not.

On PERC6 I'm sure that the vCenter monitor works, I've not verified yet on a PERC5

Hi,

Sorry to dig about this, but this link doesn't work anymore.

I can't find the correct VIB for my perc 5i controller 😕 My LSI model is LSI SAS 1068

Anyone ?
