Having to use my ancient windows laptop exclusivly for the VI Client is just crazy, a native mac client is deffinatly needed ASAP!
+1 holding breath for years...
I find it funny that VMware is "Mac-centric" as their SE's and Sales folks all have Mac's, iPads, iPhones, etc. Yet no native Mac client?
Basically it seems VMware made a deal with Microsoft somewhere along the way. VMware uses .NET to develop their management client, and Microsoft will play nice with them. Until either (A) Apple gets a version of .NET for the Mac, or (B) VMware breaks their Microsoft play nice agreement and develops a client in something other than .NET; we will never see a native Mac client.
VMware now has too much code based on Microsoft's development tools to deviate away from it. So, until Apple can get .Net for the Mac, we are screwed to using the VIclient in a VirtualBox or VMware Fusion virtual machine, or hoping onto a Windows RDP session.
I work for a big storage company and found it wasn't the relationship between MS and the company that made them create the tools in .Net it was the engineer that came up with the idea to create the tool, created it first in .Net and did not think about the bigger picture. One of our major tools for pre and post sales that is required for every sales/deployment cycle is written in .Net. The original version was an excel spreadsheet with embedded .Net and it morfed into a very bad .Net application. Now they have invested so much time, energy and money in creating this .Net app that they do not want to move it to another code standard. Now 70% of the organization (pre and post engineers) are Mac based and we are firing up a windows VM just to run vSphere and the in-house app.
There are plenty of cross OS code structures out there. Write the engine of your code in C, C++, Python, etc.. and write your individual interfaces in the platforms own GUI code base from the start. Also you could open the API's for the code base so the community can write their own GUI's easily and still conform to the standards set forth by your company.
Just my $.02
We have a vSphere iPad client now which clearly is not written in .NET yet still no native Mac client.

With the ever increasing ubiquity of OS X (and iOS) in corporate and home it’s an unforgiveable sin to ignore them!
+1 really need Native Mac client !!!!
would be perfect!
Having to hunt down a Windows machine or open up a VM to make any administration changes is rediculous and annoying.
