VMWare 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 Update Breaks Mac Screen Capture...

Running Lion (10.7.1)

Everything fine under 4.0.1

After upgrade to 4.0.2 - can no longer do "Shift-CMD-4" screen capture process, as VMWare virtual machine re-captures mouse when you try to draw the capture box for the screen capture.

Tried:

Reloading VMware tools (uninstall - reboot - reinstall - reboot)

Rebooting Mac

No change.

Reverted back to 4.0.1 - problem solved, even without reloading the tools.

Watch out, if you rely on the Shift-CMD-4 screen capture for your work day.

4.0.2 and Cmd-Shift-4 work for me. No trouble at all. VMware Fusion 4.0.2 running a Windows 7 VM on Lion 10.7.1.

What hardware are you on?

MacBook Pro?   or something else?

Were you using the trackpad or some other mouse.

When I do it, the mouse pointer disappears into the VM window, and I don't get the shutter noise at all.

(and no capture box is drawn on-screen)

Running on a Mac Pro 1,1, using the Magic Trackpad. I can't think of any reasons why it shouldn't work for you. Permissions, perhaps???

So. Slightly different hardware.

I did do a permssions repair, but there were no issues.  I also did a verify of the HDD - No issues there.

Seems to be soley a function of 4.0.2, and not even the tools.

I'll stay on 4.0.1 until they get it fixed.

I wouldn't be too sure "they" have something to "fix". To begin with, it is far from evident that your situation has been observed by anyone else with my particular flavour of hardware of with yours. That means that if the situation can't be reproduced, "fixing" it may be hard, if not impossible. Perhaps it would be a good idea for you to send VMware whatever you Support Information you can collect using 4.0.2 and explaining the problem you perceive. That way they'll at least have something to analyse. In addition, if there's nothing to repair, perhaps they can suggest something you can try your end to solve your problem.

I opened a support ticket in parallel with this community post...

Still waiting for a response back from them.

If they come up with a fix, or work-around, I will post it here.

I know a bug when I see it.

Ok.

Solution to the problem was to completly remove/uninstall VMWare off the Lion HDD, reboot, and then do a fresh install @ 4.0.2
