Hi
I wonder if someone can give me some feedback
I have worked through the Vsphere 5.0 whats new lab and I got it to work No problem
I have tried to replicate this in my own lab environment and I am getting something i know nothing about
The autodeploy simply stops and I dont understand why
If anyone can help me I will greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again

What is the hardware platform you are trying to install on? I noticed that you said you are trying it on your own lab environment...
Have you made sure that all of your hardware is supported for ESXi 5? Check the HCL for more details...
If your hardware is not supported, this could explain your issue
OK Yes I think it would be important to explain the lab environment lol
in the whats new course they used windows 2003 runing through lab manager.
I am using as my TFTP server 32 bit windows 2003 and a 64bit standard edition of windows server 2008 r2 for my vcenter all running on vmware workstation
The 2008 server is running directly on Workstation 7.0 . The TFTP server (windows 2003) is a vm that is running in a HA DRS cluster on ESXi 5.0 .
ESXi servers are running on Workstation 7.0
The thing is . The pxe (boot ) config in the bios is the same for workstation and lab manager and it worked in lab manager on vmware kit
But it aint working with me
I can do everything . The image profile from autodeploy and all the powershell cmdlets execute without any problem, I am using the same syntax with own naming convention and I am getting no errrors. But as soon as the Autodeploy starts and boots off PXE it stops ??????
Ps Duncan Epping on yellow bricks seemed to get Autodeploy to work on workstation . So i am thinking i am missing something, What i will do is post every step i take screen shot for screen shot and see if someone can pick something up
Thanks again

Hello,
I believe when Duncan did his Auto Deploy he did it all from within VMware Workstation. It reads like you are deploying tftp through a VM in a different cluster?
Is the TFTP process working for you? Are you actually seeing data come across? If you have the resources try building a TFTP server off of your Workstation VM that has vCenter installed.
Jim
i am having this same exact issue in my lab environment. it will boot fine but hang at the first cache load like yours.
i have tried booting to HP hardware, IBM hardware and a vmware workstation VM.
the vcenter server is a physically server and this happened on 2 seperate installation.
any ideas would be great for troubleshooting.
I am looking into this and have passed it onto a few VMware folks, hopefully we can resolve this soon.
Thank you. A coworker also opened a support ticket I believe.
Everything is working for me now...for some reason when we downloaded from the site we were still using an older build..
for the post owner make sure to be using the latest build from the website, any non-ga builds will mess up.
Hey guys, what's the answer to this hang problem? It looks like a few people are having this problem - including me!
All of my components are fully up to date and I do not believ I have a version problem. As per the original screen shot at the head of this thread, my attempt at auto deploying is failing with a hang at the same stage depicted.
Everything is running on Workstation 8. My vCenter is Win 2008 based with Auto Deploy, SolarWinds TFTP and MS DHCP installed and working. The ESXi host I am attempting to deploy is also a vm running on Workstation 8, as per Duncan's environment.
I too can verify that the Auto Deploy lab works in the VMware training environment, but cannot get all of this working under a Workstation 8 environment.
If you have managed to get Auto Deploy working in Workstation 8, after first experiencing this hang problem, please let us know what the trick is.
Thanks.
