Powerpoint 2010 Slide Presentation Crash

Does anyone have any insight into why Powerpoint 2010 would be crashing when attempting to launch the slideshow? Powerpoint will display the message "Powerpoint has detected that your graphics card may not be configured properly for an optimal slideshow performance" and then crashes after hitting ok. From what I've found thus far Powerpoint needs to be Pixel Shader 2.0 and Vertex Shader 2.0 compliant. I would assume the VMware video card/driver isn't compliant and is causing the issue, but would like to reach out to see if anyone has any info. Has anyone been able to get a slideshow to work with ppt 2010?

Thanks for the help.

I run into the same error when using pcoip. After starting the task manager (ctrl alt ins) the presentation shows up. When connecting with remote desktop to the same client the presentation shows up well. So the problem is in the pcoip client.

Same problem hiere,

Some more info to solve this bug:

- Using vmware 7.1.2. 301548 on Ubuntu 10.10.

- Powerpoint complains first about the graphics card, then starts the presentation but only a black screen shows up and it crashes.

- I checked "don't use hardware acceleration" in Powerpoint Options with no success, the same thing happens.

- However Openoffice shows presentations in fullscreen withouth problems.

- the very same virtual disk opened with virtualBox: Powerpoint 2010 shows the complaint about the graphics card when switching in presentation mode but then shows the presentation without crashing

Hi we fixed this issue by reinstalling the vmware svga II driver from

C:\program files\common files\vmware\drivers\

you dont need to remove the current driver just update it and you should be good to go

Updating the driver hasnt worked for me - has anyone else resolved this issue differently? I have tried removing and reinstalling VMTools which has made it worse. I only got the warning message before but now I get the black screen and powerpoint crashing.

VMTools are 8.3.2.1593

SVGA Driver: 11.6.0.37

No unfortunately I still have the problem. The appearance is fine, no flickering really so it may be a separate bug.

Follow the steps described in the following post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1531911

Doing that, we get VMware to detect 3D acceleration and, therefore, PowerPoint can launch presentations without problems.

Regards.

We had exactly same symptoms - View4.6, XP Pro desktop machine, PCoIP protocol, screen flickering (partial / full change to black, changed / reduced resolution etc.) when opening presentation in PowerPoint 2010, especially with graphics, images and photos.

Contacted VMware support and they instantly suggested turning off / disabling Hardware Acceleration in PowerPoint, which resolved the issue.

Here is a link on changing this setting in registry: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-customize/registry-key-for-disabling-har...
