Kernel panic when upgrading to 3.1.3 on Lion

I'm running OS X Lion on a 2010 iMac.  I've been running Fusion 3.1.2 with Windows 7 and have no issues.  I tried to upgrade to 3.1.3 today but each time the upgrade tries to install I get a kernel panic and must reboot.  Anybody else experiencing this and, more importantly, is there a solution?

Cheers!

Kevin

I went from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 without a problem.. MBP 2011 8G RAM. (Fusion, Ubuntu, Win7)

Do you have one your guest OS in suspend mode prior to updating to 3.1.3 possibly?

I take a snapshot of the guest OS prior to updating and make sure it's shut down and not in suspend mode..

my 2 cents

While a good idea, failing to do this should not cause a kernel panic.

The exact same thing just happened to me. I'm on 10.7 and when I tried updating VMWare Fusion to 3.1.3, my system crashed due to a kernel panic. I can attach a copy of the error log, though it's very long and I will only post it upon request.

My hardware setup:

15" MacBook Pro

2.66 GHz Core i7

8GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory

OSX Lion 10.7

I am having the exact same issue - Kernel Panic when running 3.1.3 installer.

I am on 10.7.1.

There are some definite serious installation issues upgrading Fusion with Lion.

Please fix....

Same issue here, same Lion version, same upgrade version (3.1.3).  I get a kernel panic.

Sinnman, nebutch, rcober and tweissin,

It'd be very helpful if everyone hitting a panic would post your panic reports.  They can be found on your boot volume in /Library/Logs/PanicReporter or /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports.

It is very difficult to diagnose panics without a copy of the panic report.  Keep in mind that panics can easily be caused by third party software or hardware, even if VMware Fusion appears to be the cause.  One in particular jumps to mind: there is a bug in certain versions of the Cisco VPN Client such that if it is present on the host, it could easily cause a panic while installing, uninstalling or upgrading Fusion on a host which is otherwise stable.

Kindly post your panic logs if you'd like us to look further into your panic.

Cheers,

Attached are the contents of DiagnosticReports from my computer.

FYI, I found another link somewhere that said people were able to install 3.1.2 successfully but that also led to a kernel panic for me too.

Also the reason why I am not sticking with my current version is I am hoping that the latest version of Fusion will stop my iMac from turning on its fan.  I think Fusion must be taking too much CPU so my fan is turning on.  Since not starting up Fusion (with a Windows 7 VM) my computer has been nice and quiet.

I have a MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) with Fusion 3 installed and the fan almost never comes on so this is definitely unusual.
