Same datastore to different clusters+VCs

I would like to export a certain NFS volume to two different clusters, one 3.5 cluster and one 4.1 cluster, managed by two virtualcenter servers, 2.5 and 4.1 respectively. I know it's OK to mount a NFS volume on different clusters managed by the same VC, but is it also OK with different VCs?

Yes, you can have multiple cluster from multiple vCenter Servers accessing same NFS datastore.

Yes, it's ok. But could you tell what for? Especially with 2 different vCenters.

We're planning the upgrade from 3.5 to 4.1, and we will also move to another data center with a fresh 4.1 VC + 4.1 ESX's + new storage array.

Mounting the same NFS datastore on both a 3.5 and 4.1 cluster will allow us to move VMs while still running between data centers/clusters using VMotion and storage VMotion.

Does the same apply to VMFS Datastores?

Yes it does.  See my blog post on this subject:

Thanks for that.

We do it for migrations.

Just be careful that if you delete an NFS datastore, it's gone from ALL of the hosts accessing that datastore whether they're in the same cluster or not.
