Hello and welcome to the forums.

i cannot adding   online nic or memory  to vm-guest  ( win2008 and win2003 same error).if  guest offline it work fine.

For the NIC, this is the expected behavior.  For the memory, have you enabled the "Memory Hot Add" option in the VM's properties?  Also, keep in mind that only certain guest operating systems support hot add of memory.  For more information on the supported guest operating systems, check out "What Operating Systems can be Used With Hot Add Memory and vCPU?"

Good Luck!

I have the same issue

after migrating from IBM intel based server  with esx 4.0 to brand new HP G7 amd based server with esxi 4.1u1 with all the latest patches

i can not hot add virtual nic to any guest OS (existing vm's and new vm's which have been created on the new servers)

hot adding virtual disk is working

I get the error message: failed to resume destination: VM not found

from what i understand in log while hot adding nic it's performing some kind of vmotion\ pause&resume operation and failed

I don't understand what the connection between hot add and vmotion

another thing that might be relevant is after the migration i had a problem with vmotion fails at 10% due to swap issue

i solved it by changing the Migrate.VMotionResolveSwapType according to  http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=103163...

so vmotion works fine but hot adding virtual nic still fails
