Maybe you can use an hot P2V... But you cannot create a vmdk greater than 2 TB.

So you have to resize the volume. Or split...

Have you installed it on the source machine?

If it does not work, the other way is convert only the C: volume and then use robocopy (or similar tools) ti migrate the other volumes.

GPT to MBR disk conversion can't be an option here?

Do you have converter 4.3? I know there is more support for W2K8 in that version.

Robocopy works for non system disk.

Success! I had successfully convert a Win2008R2 from UEFI system (GPT disk) to a bootable vmdk Smiley Happy

1. create a vmdk/vhd

2. robocopy all content (OS only) inside

3. copy \boot and \bootmgr

4. fixboot, fixmbr, rebuildbcd

system can be booted in both vmware ESX or hyper-v

I will generate a p2vtools very soon. please email me if you want to try beta!

Dear all,

beta of P2V for win2008R2 is ready: http://bizconline.com/en/download_view.asp?id=23

you may try it and send us comment. we will free support until 1 Aug, 2011.

this program is

1. copy the partition content to a new vhd (MBR)

2. place vm (hyper-v) disk driver

3. make it bootable (fixboot, fixmbr, copy boot from Win2008R2 CD, rebuildbcd)

If you want to convert this to vmware, you may

1. boot this vhd as VM in hyperV, mount your data drives inside this VM

2. mount the vhd in system management console and select this as OS inside the vm converter. (move data disk by yourself or use this program also)

thanks.

AlexLi from BizCONLINE.

We provide remote windows backup to cloud (with daily drill in VM) and failover to cloud within 15 minutes 🙂

It does not work. The converted VM boots, but after login requires a reboot. And so it loops

I did it using linux live cd without doing anything to the windows other than copying it:
