GUI vs CLI

Hello guys,

After reading all the blogs and posts I see that everyone is focusing on CLI and command interfaces and how to do stuff that can be done through GUI by with CLI.

The question is, are we forced to use CLI sometimes? Is there any tasks like (e.g change multipathing from Round Robin to MRU, but through CLI? and not GUI?)

Thank you,

You aren't "forced" to use any particular tool/method in the exam, but time is tight so you should be familiar with the simplest/quickest way that a task can be performed. Scott.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

There are certain things that you can only do from the GUI and not from the CLI (or API) and there are other actions wehre the situation is reversed.

The reason that I lok to doing things through the CLI is because of automation - to update change a Network card on 300 virtual machines one by one is not viable - therefore the need for CLI - be it the CLI on the host, the vCLI or PowerCLI.

As Maish has stated there are a few things that are much easier through the CLI and as part of the exam objectives you need to know how make changes and troubleshoot via both the GUI and the CLI/vMA. Part of the point of the exam is to test that you know how to troublshoot a problem if you don't have access to the console or the GUI. Having completed half the blueprint myself in my preparations for the exam i can assure you there are objectives that can only be achieved through the CLI.

Thanks guys,

Another question, is there any place where they force me to use vMA where I can use GUI? Do they prevent my access to GUI in certain questions to force me using vMA when I can use the GUI to answer or solve that lab?

Systems are full and completed.

And the environment is the same for all the tasks...

As written you can use what you want (in some case there is no option) but be focused on the task and on the time left Smiley Happy
