EVC - VMS powered on - Don't see it happen

hi guys

our cluster is six servers(ESXi 4.1 update 1) CPU x5570 @ 2.93 and we are adding a new server E5640 @ 2.67 GHz.

I've read that EVC needs to be enable. Cool. Vmware recommends Power off VMs and enable it kinda imposible when you got 80 VMs in your enviroment.... so I saw some articles saying is possible while VMs are up and running.....

let me tell you what I am doing.

I created a new EVC Cluster(TEMP). I just enabled EVC - not HA or DRS - EVC is Intel Xeon Core 2.

Just for testing I removed all VMs from one node from the old cluster(OLD).

I added that node to this New EVC Cluster (TEMP).

I tried to vmotion just one VM from the old Cluster (OLD) to the new host just added to TEMP but I get the error I am trying to avoid

Host CPU is incompatible with the virtual machine's requirement level 0x1 register 'ecx'
....
Mismatch detected for these features:
SSE4.1
SSE4.2

why I get this they say is possible migrate while VMs are up and running and the weird thing is I am migrating a VM from an identical node to another identical node just this last node has EVC enabled in its cluster.

what I am doing wrong? I don't think if moving a VM between identical host fails I will get the same error while moving it to the new just added host (E5640 @ 2.67GHz)

has someone sucessfully enabled and migrated VMs in EVC cluster while VMs are ON?

thanks a lot

OK. Got it.

Basically you need to create a cluster with EVC the highest level possible compatible for all servers.

thanks a lot

did it and it's working just fine.
