ESXi 4 all VMs powered off deleted from the datastore

Hello,

All my powered off VMs in the datastore have been deleted and only the powered on VMs are been shown in the datastore, but when I check the files there are only 2 files .vswp and .vmdk for every powered on VMs.

Is there a bug in ESXi 4 that deletes all VMs powered off from the datastore. I believe my datastore was almost out of disk space, the capacity is 1 TB and last when i checked the free space was arnd 100 GB.

I am worried as to where all my VM are and how it got deleted from the system.

Nikhil,

this sounds too serious to waste any time.

You should immediately open a call with VMware!

Hi Andre

I have already raised a call with VMWare. It's a very serious issue am facing.

I believe once the datastore runs out of disk space, it starts deleting VMs that are powered off thus creating free disk space.

Looks like some bug in VMware ESXi 4, since then I have upgraded all my VM host servers to ESXi 4.1 and touch wood haven't faced the same situation again, now I also have vCenter Server thus all the reporting, alerts, warnings are handled by the vCenter Server, give me flexibility and also security.
