I created a new blank VM with 1 vNIC set to VMXNET3. The VM was built from WDS with all the required drivers baked in for vmxnet3. VMware tools are installed. When I go into edit settings on the VM, "Connected" is not checked. When I check that option and apply in VC it shows this completing successfully. However, I can go back in and see it is still not connected and the box is unchecked again. When I tail the hostd.log file I see the following.
