VM lost packets - Host pNIC output flow control

We received reports of lost packets on a VM. Our Network group looked at the ports. Our VM vswitch has 2 associated pNICs. Each goes to a separate physical Cisco Switch.

Attached is information for the 2-physical switch ports in question. Note the "output flow control" setting for each and the pause and overun numbers.

  1. I don't modify pNIC settings at a Host level so it's curious that this "output flow control" setting is different for each.
  2. Can this setting chnage dynamically?
  3. Will each pNIC have the default setting set differently depending on model and/or vendor?
  4. Is there best practice guidance on what this setting should be?
  5. Any guesses as to if this setting is likely root cause for dropped packet complaints?
