Vmware Collector not sending performance data

Hi,

I'm doing a Virtualization Assessment using Vmware Capacity Planner 2.7

The collector was able to identify the systems and I can see in the vmware optimize website dashboard the systems after I registered the Database I. I have waited 4 days and I have tried to run manually the data syncronization job to force the performance data to be uplaoded to the vmware warehouse.

Do i have to do something extra to collect performance data from the systems?

or I need to wait at less one week to see the data in the dashboard?

Thanks

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Usually it's one day before you can see the data. Four days and you still can not see the data is not right.

You should be able to see the collector status at "Dashboard" => "Collection Dashboard"

I checked the dashboard and it says: "Collector Registered"

I was just checking that.. I see the inventory files uploaded but 0 performance upload

Then you should see whether the files are still at the collectors or not. The location of the files usually is at "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Capacity Planner\archive"

and when you do the datasync, you should see some lines like these at the collector log

10/20/2009 10:48:45:1:2288: Send Data: Sending file C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Capacity Planner\Outbox\Inv_XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXX_20091020104842.csv

Also you should double check that the database id is registered correctly. You can try open the Stats_XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXX_200910XXXXXXXX.csv file and look at the id at the first line.

The first set of the number is the collector id,

The second set of the number is the database id. This is the one that need to be registered at the web site.

correction: the unsent files usually are at "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Capacity Planner\Outbox"

Andrew, if you are still having trouble, have a look at Lanamark Suite. A lot of VMware VACs use it to deliver desktop virtualization, server virtualization and storage infrastructure solutions.

Hey guys. I've been performing a Capacity Planner assessment for a client. The first set of Windows servers that I sync'd with the dashboard turned out fine (i.e. Inventory and Performence data showed up in the dashboard). I've since added a bunch more servers and although the inventory data shows up on the collector - it doesn't show up on the dashboard at all. I've tried to do a full export from the collector but the dashboard continues to show no Inventory data for these new servers.

The collection dashboard shows that both inventory and perfromence data is being successfully uploaded to the dashboard. Why am I not able to see the Inventory for any of these new servers on the dashboard - when I can see them on the collector?

Performence data shows success at being uploaded every hour, but now when I take a look at the dashboard and view Performence Summary, ALL servers show 0's (zeroes) across the board. I've heard performence data can take awhile to show up on the dashboard but it's been 2 weeks since the first set of servers sync'd and 1 week since the second set sync'd with the dashboard.

Anyone have any ideas what might be happening?

Thanks
