I've installed OpenSuse11, Redhat 5.2 and Windows 2003 Server enterprise on my ESXi host.
Then I manually configured all the IP address of VMs in guest OS.
(In my application, I need to get IP address of new deployed VM to proceed.)
However, when I connect ESXi 4.1 host using vSphere Client and switch to the summary tab of VM.
Only the VM installed OpenSuse11 could be displayed.
I've also tried vim-cmd vmsvc/get.guest {ESXi ID}, but still could not see the IP address.
I don't konw whether it is the problem with configuration of my guest OS or VM or vSphere Client.
Does anyone encountered such problem?
Welcome to the Community,
in order to get the IP address displayed in the summary tab, you need to install VMware Tools in the guest OS.

Dear Gavinyin
If you create those VMs as the OpenSuse11 VM then you don't have any issue in VMs
the vSphere client has nothing to do with your issue.
the only things remain is your OS
would you please check your OS setting for IP and try to ping it
Thank you for your reply.
However, I have not installed Vmware tools in OpenSuse. What mechanism guarantees that I can see ipAddress in the summary tab.
make sure that you VMs NIC is connected
to check for this one:
1- right click on you VM
2- edit setting ==> hardware==>Network Adapter
3- check the device status if it check or not
make sure that NIC is connectd
Hi vSolid,
Thanks for your reply. My VMs whose IP address could not be seen in the summary can access network after I login the guest OS.
So I don't think it is the problem with my network NIC.
I've looked up and installed vmware tools. In OpenSuse, an open source vmware tools is installed by default.
That's why only I can only see the IP address of VM with openSuse in vSphere Client.
Thank you for your helpful reply.
