Unity Mode - Window/Super key keeps getting stuck

Hey everyone.

Running Ubuntu 10.04 64 Bit Host, and Windows XP as Guest, Workstation 7.1.3

When I'm using Unity mode for a while, quite often the Super key get stuck in a downward state.

This means every time I hit 'F' the Search dialog comes up, and every time I hit 'E' an explorer dialogue comes up.

To work around this whenever it happens is to exit and then enter Unity.

I have a feeling that this has something to do with Gnome-Do (which I run in Docky mode).

I reported this Gnome-Do related bug previously, for which the workaround is:

  1. Close Gnome-Do
  2. Switch to Unity
  3. Open Gnome-Do again

I've noticed that when I do this, the Super key gets stuck a lot faster than if I simply leave the gap at the bottom of the screen.

The only time I hit the Super key is when I'm using Gnome-Do, so I woudn't be shocked if it was the culprit.

Any help on how to avoid this would be great, as the software I'm using in a VM in Unity mode, I tend to use all day, and switching in and out of Unity is no fun.

Thanks in advance!

I just did some more testing - this is totally related to when I hit Super+Space to activate Gnome-Do.

Its seems that whenever I do this, the the Super key gets stuck in Unity.

I don't use gnome-do and have seen the same problem using unity mode. I suspect that somewhere the "super" "windows" key is getting toggled on ... maybe by me, but it doesn't happen except in unity.

Just bumping this.

Looks like a legitamate bug in Unity mode. Would be great to get a response from an engineer or someone from VMWare as to whether or not it has been verified and/or being fixed.

I agree, and the bug exists in both workstation 7.1.3 and fustion (3.1.2). Two Linux host machines (Ubuntu 10.10) and one Macbook pro (10.6.6, but every version of snow leopard) show the same problem, and it's not just the super key--almost any key can start repeating or getting stuck. I hope VMware engineers can get to the bottom of this. It's a tough problem, because it only happens sometimes, and I haven't yet seen a pattern.

I've been using 7.1.4 build-385536 and this bug seems to be mostly fixed.

Very occasionally does it rear it's ugly head, but it's pretty few and far between (maybe once a day).

So it may be this issue has been resolved (at least mostly)
