Migreate VMs from ESXi 4.1 to VMWare Server 2.0

Hi All,

I know both ESXi and VMWare server support version 7 of VMDK file. Just wondering can I copy VMs file (VMDK file and all the related file) from ESXi 4.1 server  to another server and host them on VMWare Server 2.0??

Please advise. Thanks!!

you cannot directly copy over files and use on vmware server.

you need to use vmware convertor for the same.

Hi,  You need to use VMware Converter to do the conversion as the both product are using different version.   http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/faqs.html

I guys, I have tested. VMs files in ESXi 4.1 can be imported directly into VMWare server 2.0 becuase both of them support hardware version 7. No convertion is needed.
