Appliance using application server high availability

If you have an appliance which has a web server is it possible to create a cluster with multiple appliances?

I am not referring to  VMWARE HA.  I'd like to use the application server capability to create a cluster.

It seems like creating a cluster would defeat the ease of use and provisioning of an appliance?

u can use microsoft clustering...if not...

u can count on vmware fault tolerance for application high availability as it ensures zero downtime.,

If you have some sort of load balancer in front of it and the webservers would be aware of it and share a common database / app server, yeah why not. But that is really application architecture rather than VMware HA or FT.
