I am attempting to install ESX 3.5 on a remote Supermicro server. The server is connected via a KVM solution, which works great. After booting off the ESX install media I reach the boot prompt and hit enter. The CD loads and then I get to the CD Media Test window. At this point, the computer locks up (i.e. no keyboard and no mouse) thus preventing my from selecting Test or Skip. I have tested through an ISO as well and have verified that the media does work. I have also tried running the install in text mode, debug mode, and with the noapic option to no avail. If a crash cart is plugged into the server then the system no longer hangs (I can select Test or Skip and continue with the installation). I did find a previous post about this (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/45393) with the only real solution being a scripted install. Any ideas on how to solve this without the use of a crash cart or a scripted install?

Well if it works with a crash cart, the computer is not locked up persay.... How is the KVM plugged into the system? Sounds like the culprit is how this is working more than anything. Is it serial/usb? If so then that could be the issue as USB does not always work very well.
