script for physical disk read/write latencies?

Hi,

Can anyone point me into the right direction?
I would like to write a script that gets physical disk read/write latency values for NFS stores.
I also would like to retrieve virtual disk latencies.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Is there something wrong with the nfstop script I pointed you to???? http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/1437425-32748/nfstop

I am sure it works great. The only reason I am for looking something else is that if I want to install/run
a script on server I would have to go through our Change Management process which is unfortunatelly
a time consuming process here. If there was something out of the box or that does not involve installing on the server
I would prefer that. Silly? I absolutely agree but that is how it is.

Place nfstop on a datastore. No installation required if you are using 4.1 since vscsiStats is part of ESXi 4.1.  A doc on using vscsiStats http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-10095 for collecting disk latencies.

Hi AllBlack,

have you look at: www.vkernel.com/files/resources/measuring-nfs-disk-io.pdf

an try to install Storage-view to see the disk latency on the datastore: http://www.vkernel.com/products/storage-view it is freeware.

Storageview by itself is not telling me much. I see the top 5 hosts but it won’t let me do much.

I guess I need to install the analyser tool as well?

Yes, you may have to if you wnt to look into details.

another alternative is that using Veeam Monitor 5 which can run as freeware http://www.veeam.com/esxi-monitoring-free/download.html
