Security server vs VPN

What is the biggest benefit to having a security server?  I understand with a security server you can only have a RDP session, so you don't have the feature of PCoIP anymore.  What are additional pros of a security server over using VPN?

The first thing that comes to mind if the fact I don't want to give VPN to a user on their home desktop.   The security server allows me to simply give them the URL and let them install the VDI client for access into their VDI machine.

Also look for PCOIP through the security server to be available in the next release of View.   I have no idea when that is coming but hopefully it will be soon.

Another aspect is that the Security Server does not need to be a part of the Active Directory and the View Manager does.

VPN require another software and another operation to do.

So a simple tunnel mode in https is, IMHO, a better and clean solution.

Correct.

You have to open only one port (443).

Also some VPN work on a single port, but they are not integrated with View Client (you have to start them before open the View Connection).

I think that's why some people prefer VPN over public IPs, if they already have

VPN implemented they prefer VPN

With View 4.6 being released today it now supports PCoIP tunneling through the security server.

Just tested... and it works fine.

It requires another port (not only the 443), but can also works behing a NAT.
