Configuring Update Manager to Use with an Internet Proxy
After installing Update Manager, you can modify the configuration to work with an Internet proxy server by
using the Custom Install option in the installation program. To do this, restart the installation process and
provide new proxy configuration information. The installation process is described in, “To Install Update
Manager” on page 12.
After providing the proxy information, you might need to provide authentication information.
To update proxy authentication information
1 Log in to the VMware Update Manager server as an administrator.
2 Stop the VMware Update Manager service.
a Right‐click My Computer and click Manage.
b In the left pane, expand Services and Applications and click Services.
c In the right pane, select VMware Update Manager, click Action, and click Stop.
3 Open the vum-proxyAuthCfg.exe file in the Update Manager directory.
4 Provide updated proxy authentication information.
5 Restart the Update Manager service.
magari me lo hai gia detto, ma sql 2005 o 2008?

his issue may occur if:
  • Update Manager is installed with a remote SQL 2005 or 2008 database using Windows Authentication and the Update Manager Service is set to log on as a Local System Account.

To resolve this issue, change the Update Manager Service to log on to the remote database as a Windows account with Administrator privileges:
    1. Click Start > Run, type services.msc, and click OK.
    2. Right-click VMware Update Manager and click Properties.
    3. Click the Log on tab.
    4. Select This account, specify the Windows account along with the appropriate password, then click OK.
    5. Right-click VMware Update Manager and click Restart.
  • The Update Manager configuration file contains an incorrect database entry or if DSN does not match the Update Manager configuration file.

To resolve this issue, ensure that the entries in the Update Manager configuration file match:
    1. Open the vci-integrity.xml file (located in C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager\vci-integrity.xml) in a text editor.
    2. Locate the database parameters:

      <database>
      <dbtype>SQL Native Client</dbtype>
      <dsn>VMware Update Manager</dsn>
      <InitialConnections>20</initialConnections>
      <maxConnections<40</maxConnections>
      </database>
    3. Verify that ODBC DSN and driver match the <dsn> and <dbtype> entries:
      • If the system is 32bit, go to Administrative Tools > Data Sources ODBC > System DSN.
      • If the system is 64bit, launch %SystemRoot%\syswow64\odbcad32.exe from Start > Run.
    4. If the DSN does not exist, recreate it with the same entries as the vci-integrity.xml file and ensure to apply appropriate permissions to the database. For more information, see the ESX and vCenter Server Installation Guide.
    5. After making any changes restart the Update Manager Service and test the plug-in connectivity.
    6. If you still get the error, it may be necessory to remove the Update Manager plug-in by going toAdd/Remove Programs and then reinstalling it in the Plug-in Manager.

  • Automated remediation of patches and upgrades for VMware vSphere hosts, select online and offline  Microsoft Windows virtual machines, as well as for 3rd party updates from  storage and server vendors. Snapshots ensure the ability to rollback in case of  patching failures, and a new automatic notification service makes certain that  the most current version of a patch is available on the Update Manager  server.
