We will probably find out when vSphere 5 comes out before we find out about when the certification comes out.

It is not coming out any time soon, so just go for VCP4

There has not even been an announcement for a new version of vSphere.

So I'd suggest you go for VCP4.

I'm going to move this thread to the VCP forum

All the friends right, it is better to know when vSphere 4 came out, the VCP 4 announce the exam a little bit later, so it takes a long time for VCP 5. Beside if VCP 5 release, and u have VCP 4, it is easier to have VCP 5.

Yes,

I even never heard about VMware is launching Vsphere 5, may be it could take much more time, better you can go ahead with Vsphere 4.

As others have said, we will know about the new product version release date long before the new VCP version.

Focus on VCP4, and update your VCP to the new version as and when it is possible to do that.

Scott.

Hi Scott,

Not sure if your reply was a “who knows???” or a more serious question on who does know, but it gives me a reason to let everyone know that we can’t comment on release dates at this time. We will of course give a fair amount of notice before VCP5 is going to be released along with an upgrade path, as we did when VCP4 was released.

Even if new verison comes out this year the CERT will not be ready untill 2012. Plus the upgrade paths are much eaiser. I know I plan on going full bore to my VCDX and when new verisons do come out I will take the eaiser upgrade test. Smiley Happy

And it just looks better when you can list VCP 3,4, 5 Smiley Happy

Well not trying to cause any confusion but my boss sent me this link yesterday regarding vSphere 5:

http://searchservervirtualization.techtarget.com/news/2240031960/VMware-previews-vSphere-5-at-Partne...

According to this article, vSphere 5 is slated to be released this summer and that info came from some VMware Product Managers who attended the Partner Exchange conference in Florida earlier this year.  I don't know how accurate it is but it definitely got my attention since I am working on my VCP 4 certification.  Are you allowed to comment on that or no?  If you can't comment, that's fine.

I think if you invoke your google-fu skills you can find the date vSphere4 was released, then find the dates people started doing the beta test and then the date the VCP4 was generally available. Take those differences in time and apply them to what may be the possible release timeline for vSphere 5 (if that's what they are going to call it. I honestly don't know) and get a general timeframe as to when you might be able to certify on vSphere 5 (as we are calling it in this thread). I would also think that as it will be a major release there may be some significant changes to the architecture of the product as opposed to features added. What you study for now may change for the next release.

I would think that if you have put in some time to prepare for the VCP4 it would be wise to follow through and write the test.

I agree. I doubt we'll see any VCP5 exam until Q4 2011 - that's not based on any insider knowledge, just my personal thoughts/opinion. There's plenty of life in VCP4 yet.

Scott.

VCP5 exams can be written starting on August 29, 2011.

More info here: http://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=12457&ui=www_cert

(Current VCP4's have until Feb 29, 2012 to write it without having to take a "What's New" course, much the same as when we went from VCP3 to VCP4.)

Still early on the ball game but, it looks like the majority of the new fetures are in Enterprise Plus only.  The changes to HA, though are intresting...

I know have about weeks worth reading to do on top of getting ready for my DCA.... But hey it's like kid in candy store at this point.
