NFS datastore is not displayed.

Hi.

I added NFS(Pillar Axiom 300) in 2 ESX Servers(ESX Server 3.5 update 3) and I created VM on NFS.

VM had created successfully.

But nothing is display when I browsed NFS datastore from VC(Virtual Center 2.5 update 3).

Local datastore on the ESX server can be browsed.

NFS mount can be done on the ESX server.

but,

Nothing had displayed from datastore browser only NFS datastore.

How can I display NFS datasotre from datastore browser?

Thanks in advance.

You can see the NFS store in the VI Client but when you open the Datastore browser nothing appears?

Do you use VCenter or a direct connection to the ESX server?

Did you wait some time between the creation of the guest on NFS and your try to browse the store?

Have you used the refresh button?

Do you see the files when you ssh/scp to the ESX hosts and navigate to the datastore under /vmfs/volumes/[NFS Datastore_NAME]?

: No. I could not see any files under /vmfs/volumes/NFS Datastore when I SSH/WinSCP to the ESX Server.

But I could see the files when I mounted the NFS. Please see the attached file.(sorry in japanese)

so, does this esx node have local storage? maybe you accidently created the vm on local storage?

what does

"vmware-cmd -l" return?

Did you mistakenly select "Mount NFS read only"? Can you please run ls-l on NFS directory.?

But, your Datastore picture not showing as "Read Only"? I believe it must be problem with your Storage permission.

Is it possible that you look at an unmounted NFS directory in your browser?

Please enter "vdf -h" in the console and see if the NFS store is listed.

Thank you for reply.

If it is not the following methods, unmounted NFS directory cannot be seen.

(a)mount the NFS on ESX service console.

(b)nevigate the Datastore browser on ESX host.

Here the result what I ran "vdf -h" command.

look for "no root squash" on your nas settings for that nfs share, you might find it easier to use iscsi luns.

I assume that the enabled "Root = Yes" option in the Pillar configuration GUI is the "no_root_squash" option.

Hello,

I’m having similar issues with using an NFS drive in vCenter.  I can add the NFS storage, I can browse the datastore (which is empty in vCenter though it actually has files in it (See image A)) and I can create directories from with vCenter by browsing the datastore.  I can even create a VM and add that VM to the NFS datastore.  However, once I try to start the VM, I get an error:

Failed to power on VM

“Unable to retrieve the current working directory: 38 (Function not implemented). Check if the directory has been deleted or unmounted.”

(See image B)

If I attempt to browse the datastore, I cannot see anything in the storage; however, it is there.  I can see the directories and VM’s I’ve been creating with their full drives, etc. (See image C) in another NFS mount from another Linux machine.

This is what my exports file looks like:

/home/nas 192.168.1.0/24(rw,anonuid=503,anongid=505,no_root_squash)

I can add the NFS from other Linux machines and browse/create/write.  I’m running ESXi 4.1 and vCenter 4.1.

Any help would be appreciated…

Thanks

Mark
