Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Servers and Outlook 2007

We are working on updateing our Windows 2003 Terminal Servers to Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Servers but Outlook seems to run really slow. The VM has 2 vCPU with 4 GB of RAM. All of my research has not turned up anything good.

I have done the following:

  • Disabled checksum offloading on VMXNET 3 adapter.
  • Disabled
    • netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable
    • netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled
    • netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled

Does anyone have any ideas to try?

Is anyone else seeing this issue?

The first thing you need to do is to identify if it is a TS build or a VMware issue.

I would try doing the same TS build on a comparative physical server and see if the same issues exist.

I would also check the config of Outlook - caching mode is not recommneded in a TS environment.

I am running my enture TS environment on 2008 R2 with Office 2007 and office 2010 with no issues at all that I've been made aware of.  My machines have similiar configuration.  2vCPU and 4GB of RAM...

I do however not have the instant search enabled within outlook (as that will kill the machines)

Might want to try this to see if it helps  - start outlook with Outlook /rpcdiag
