DR Over The Wan

Hello

We already have a VM infrastructure that hosted about 90% of our servers. Now we want to add a DR facility that will be hosted at a seperate site. At the moment if we want to restore the servers at our DR facility we would just bring the tapes from ou core site and do a standard backup exec restore. We were wondering if there was any way we could use VM to replicate the images over the WAN to our DR site?

We have read on the VM site about using VMware to do this but it doesn't seam to say if this works over a WAN, it seams to indicate that this is just a LAN based solution.

Thanks

Hi,

Have you looked at using SRM (http://www.vmware.com/products/site-recovery-manager/. This is a great application for DR and works amazingly well. Its simple to setup but does require extra expense with license costs.

I would recommend looking in to the above if you want to have a proper virtual DR solution.

If you found this helpful then please leave some points.

Agreed with  pauljawood, SRM is a product designed to do exactly what you want to accomplish.

Keep in mind though that you are going to need storage replication on array level (over WAN aparently). Ask the partner or vendor of your SAN on possibilities to replicate data from production site array to another array in DR site.
