Hello everybody. I lost password for VMWare server. There has been only root user and I can not login under another user. I found article how to reset password for root user. There is said, that I should press space bar, when GRUB screen apears. But I don't have such screen. When my server is launches, it makes internal diagnostic and immideaitely starts loading vmware server. How can I call this screen? (As I understood, it something like when you press F8 for Windows). Thank you very much.
Hi,
This link will explain how to the password is to be reset on an ESX host http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=131789....
I will test this with ESXi now and update.
I have just found the following link which should resolve you issue http://www.bock.nu/blog/reset-root-password-vmware-esxi-4.1. It will mean downloading a unix cd but the process seems easy enough.
Hope this helps get the server back in your control.

Hi. Many thanks for your answer. But I read this article. I have problem, that GRUB screen does not appear, whem I'm starting my server. ESXi launches automatically and no any menu for selecting service console.
to reset ESXi password, you can refer to here: http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/Reset_root_password.php
Sorry, how can I enter at this screen from ESXi menu? there are just two cases: F12 - restart server and F2 - server options. Both items are requesting password.
Hi,
I have updated my post above with different link that should help. I noticed that the first link as as you said regarding the GRUB and the new link takes you step by step through the process.
Thank you so much, I will try this instruction
