Lagging Streaming Video using View 4.5 Client with PCoIP

I'm having a strange issue that just started. I'm not sure if it's my VM machines, the new client, or the new thin clients i'm using. What's happening is when I go to watch a video on say youtube, the video is very laggy, until I put my mouse pointer over the video. When I do that it works fine? I just swapped from using a dell desktop (I never noticed this before on the desktop) to a dell thin client. I also recently upgraded to 4.5, so I'm not sure which is the problem. Is there something I can do to fix the slow video?

Great, that worked! I don't know why I didn't think of trying that before posting here. Thanks for your help!

I'm having a similar issue.

Watching Youtube is pretty lagging but on mine, moving the mouse cursor on top of it didn't fix it.

I changed the Pool settings on Adobe Flash quality as you suggested but my desktop is still producing the same thing.

Do I need to refresh the desktop after I updated the Pool settings?

Please advise.

Thanks,

CP7

What is the bandwidth on the client side and host side? My VM Host (virtual machine) is on a DSL with 6 Mbps/ 512kbps. So when I am viewing YouTube on the client side (i.e. thinclient), I am pulling the video through the 512kbps and it is choppy. I was told that you need at least 1 Mbps.

I'm actually testing the view (host and client) on the same network through a 1 gigabit switch so I think it should be good enough bandwidth.

Viewing YouTube is not choppy but it's not smooth either.

The sound is perfect but the video is a little lagging than the sound.

I assume that when you log into the host directly, YouTube was all smooth and good?

Nope.

It's the same thing. I tried that, RDP, and PCoIP, they are all the same. Not as smooth as on a physical machine.

I'm suspecting the adobe flash is causing the problem.

I have updated it to latest version and also make sure the latest VMware Tools is installed.

CP7, A few suggestions:

- For HD video, you need 2 x vCPUs for your VM

- Try the SALSA encryption option

- If you're using a thin client, ensure it meet recommended performance

requirements. This is not an issue for zero client or PC client

configurations.

PCoIP is certainly a great display protocol. However in some scenarios of high latency/low bandwidth remote connections (like over certain WANs), you may still experience issues with performance of graphics apps like YouTube videos or Flash movies. So you may want to complement the VMware View deployment with Ericom Blaze, a software-based RDP acceleration and compression product that provides improved performance over WANs and other slow networks. Besides delivering higher frame rates and reducing screen freezes and choppiness, Blaze accelerates RDP performance by up to 10-25 times, while significantly reducing network bandwidth consumption especially over low-bandwidth/high latency connections.

You can use VMware View with PCoIP for your LAN and fast WAN users, and at the same time use VMware View with Blaze over RDP for your slow WAN users. This combined solution can provide enhanced performance in both types of environments, letting you get the best out of VMware View for your users.
