I got through all of them, with no time to spare, but only because I rushed the last couple of diagram style questions and a few regular ones.  The diagram questions were awful, never thought I'd long for Visio, my main issue being getting finnished up only to realise some lines didn't go where I wanted, but the only way to move them was to click 'Start Over'...They're asking for too much in the diagrams for such a tiny screen I think.  First time at a Vue professional center too, felt like I was going to be getting on a plane with all the security.

If you put diagram connectors in the wrong place, you didn't have to "Start Over".  There's a scissors tool in the lower right corner of the Visio tool which "cuts" individual connectors.  I figured that out on my first diagram after running into the same trouble you did.  It would have been helpful for Jon Hall of VMware to point that out in his most excellent Flash demo of the Visio tool.

I think it took a 20 minutes just to do the first lab. So much time to one question.

Had mine earlier and I "finished" with 6 seconds to spare. I say "finished" because the last visio style question I completely skipped and the previous one I did the basic layout and then moved on too. Now I don't like doing that but I weighed up the option of either spending all the remaining time doing the visio question and missing the last 20 or so questions or skipping it and racing through. I don't know if it was the correct gamble or not as who knows how they will weight it. The problem though, was even with racing through I was still very limited on time so most likely misread a few of the questions or made some wild guesses.

I certainly would have felt more comfortable if I could have gone back to previous questions and that's one of the comments I left.

Whatever you think about the amount of time, I know now, with hindsight, that I spent too long in the first half hour or so "bedding" down. I must have read and reread some of those first questions 3 or 4 times and that cost me later on.

With regard content, I thought the blueprint was pretty much spot on. There's a few questions that I know I'm kicking myself on as they were bread and butter and not what I was expecting, almost basic VCP stuff, and for whatever reason my mind went blank. Typically only to come back to me later but it's too late then as I'd already moved on!

There were some vendor specific questions which is unfortunate if you don't happen to know that vendor's hardware and some similary worded questions were rather ambigious, though at the 3rd time of asking I think I got what it was "trying" to ask.

I only had issues with one of the drag and drops where there was just too much asked and too much information on the screen, compounded by the blocks not sticking in the right boxes! As the others have mentioned, know HA, know ESXTOP counters and thresholds, know multipathing but also make sure you know/understand "business reasons" for BCP and DRP decisions.

Visio wise, I thought it was very good. I really liked that sort of questioning. I just wish I had had more time, you can't concentrate on them once you've started clock watching! Perhaps a sub section with a separate time limit for those questions? I think one of the MS exams used to do that? Didn't try using the scissor tool (thanks Jason!), as that would have helped in one case where I wanted to remove something and had to undo a few steps. One time undo actually removed an entire section.

You certainly need experience rather than just the facts to pass this

exam but having 3 weeks notice of the beta certainly didn't help and I would have felt more comfortable having sat the Design Class, though none were available (after work committments) in southern California in the time frame available.

As I've had time to think this evening I've also done the usual and realised a few silly mistakes, just hope they don't come back and bite me! Fingers crossed I did enough.

It was certainly an intense experience and probably the fastest 4 hours on record but at the same time geekily enjoyable. One things for sure it's proved, yet again, how much I love this technology!

              Good luck everyone!

Thanks for the link. I skipped over all of the viso-like stuff as learning to use them on-site would have taken too much time. Even so, as it is in this video - which is a VERY good representation - I would had said that this guys diagram was wrong - as it looked like the prod-1 VMs were replicated. I'm also going to assume that this was a logica diagram as there was no networking added...

I finished all 131 questions with about 15 minutes left. taking time to do these would more than likely have pushed me over limit.

I agree that the vendor-specific questions were a bit much. While anybody who does any design for VMware has to know at least a little storage, depending on where they work or who their customers are they may not know anything about specific vendors. For example, I know the IBM and NetApp product lines pretty well, but I don't know other vendors' products as well as I would like. I guess I wouldn't object if it were covered better in the blueprint.

I also wish I'd noticed the scissors icon before the last Visio question.

I'll take this exam one hour ago..

Of course too little time for 131 question. When I answered for 85 question I have just one hour to other. Sometimes read one question for 3-4 times to understand what they want.

Thank you for "cut" botton in visio questions don't use it ).

I can say good expiriense. Interesting visio labs, but so small time..(

Ok it's the last day good luck for all who must exam yet..

Completely agree with the above statement - found I spent the first hour meticulously answering each question (including the Visio stuff) before realising  that the clock was well against me. I then sped things up by missing out the remaining Visio diagrams ... but still managed to answer only 105 of the questions. Is it just me or were there more Visio diagrams towards the beginning of the exam as I found more multiple choice questions the further I got into the exam?

I managed to finish both my VCP 3 and 4 exams with half an hour to spare so not finishing was a disappointment.

Reading other feedback I am relieved to see that many others also agree that there wasn't enough time to complete the exam properly.

I thought on balance it was a really good exam....i completed all the questions but i'm probably not as up with the technology as most on here so I probably lacked the detail in my answers and sped through them a bit....

The time management was tricky...after about 30 questions i thought i was way way behind but it all balanced out...it would have been cool to see how many of each type of question you had so you could plan your time as it could take anything between 30 seconds to 30 minutes per question........

i thought the drag and drop stuff was good, you could plan it out backwards as well as forwards which reflected real life to me.....The visio type stuff could do with a bit of improvement but on the whole i liked that style of question. To me it needs 'snap to grid', more space and the ability to label stuff and you'd be away..........

Took the exam yesterday in London 13:00 - 16:45.. did all 131 with a full minute to spare. I though the exam was pretty much all relevant. Issues with visio freezing etc. and not enough screen space.. apart from that no issues.

Anyone know what the passing score is? or what the passing score for the DCA was?

Although the blueprint has not been updated, I believe the passing score for DCA is 300. No word on the DCD yet, they will need to get through the beta process first.

I took the test on Wednesday afternoon.  The blueprint is obviously on point.  I am not sure if you could straight up "study" for this test as much as having experience.  I felt the experience of working thru problems and designs with customers and/or colleagues really helps on this test. I had a few technical issues with the interface on the questions when you had to put the steps in order or put statements into a category with the numbers not "sticking" to their spots but after a few tries it worked.  The Visio tool worked fine but some of the diagrams were a little confusing because there was so much going on in such a small area.  Hopefully I pass but I wasn't expecting to take the beta and have the design workshop scheduled for 2 weeks from now. Good luck to everyone else who took the exam.

I did the design course way back in april and whilst it helps it certainly isnt the only thing you need to pass.. as others have said you need to have walked the path to have the knowledge required.
