Good Eveninig;
I have implmented 2 ESXI servers as a Virtual boxes in VMware workstation ,and as the VMware restrict long mode (64bit) on ineer Virtualization layer (Virtual ESXI) ESXI i can't deploy the VDR appliance on my virtual esxi .I doing that for learninig and testing purposes.
So i implemented the vDR Appliance as VM on VMware workstation ,But i can't connect to it by its DNS or IP address of the vDR appliance using the vDR Plug-in ,I Checked that it should be deployed on ESX\ESXI (but i can't deploy any 64bit OS on Virtual ESXI ) I need a solution for that situation please.
I hate to stuck while i'm doing a lot of information collecting and knowlage building ,So please help me as quickly as possible on that situation.
But i can't connect to it by its DNS or IP address of the vDR appliance using the vDR Plug-in
Can you ping the VDR at all?
How did you configure the VM? Manually?
Which ethernet adapter is configured for the VM? --> Ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"
André
Thanks for trying to help a.p .
1-Sure i don't configure the VM Manually , i deployed it from ovf so all the config is preconfigured by VMware i don't change anything. Also i said that i run it on Workstation ,so there is no e1000 !!!!!! .
2-All the esx and the vcenter can ping with the DNS and IP address the vDR and also vDR can ping all esx and vcenter.
Sure its not a Network problem its about 64bit inside Virtual ESXI .(Nested VMs ) or how can i connect the vDR as VM on workstation to vCenter , It says " The Specified Data Recovery Appliance couldn't be located " , but both vCenter and vDR ping each other correctly.
Any solutions availabe to this operation please ??????
Any Help or Suggestions Please ...........
I'm in the same boat matey...
nslookups, pings, trace routes - everything works.
"Error: The specified Data Recovery appliance could not be localed."
I seems as vCenter cannot find vDR if its not sitting as a VM on one of the hosts...
P.S. did you use ovf tool to convert the .ovf to .vmx? I had to do that to just run the god damn thing!
I came across this:
but no way of adding to a standalone VM.
@Everyone else looking
Any ideas?
Yes, I got the same error when I tried testing vDR with 2 ESX4 in VMware workstation.
I think the vDR VM must be deployed on ESX and managed by vCenter.

Thanks for sharing my pain ..
However, you can install vDR v1.0.x on ESX (installed in workstation) ..... since it is with 32-bit OS.
I just tested today and it worked fine with vCenter/ESX 4.1
