Creating a n alert for disonnected/unresponsive VM's

Hey Guys,

I'm currently running vCenter 4.1 and I want to create an alert for disconnected or non responding VM's. I havea basic idea hoe to create new alarm definitions but I cant seem to find one that does what I want. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

you will probably have to create a new alarm to "Monitor for specific events on this object..." Alarm type needs to be Virtual Machine. Add a trigger for the Event "VM disconnected. Then configure your actions.

I'm trying that now. I have it confiured on a test VM. Now I'm trying to find a way to force the VM into a disconected state to see if the alarm will fire. I'm not sure how to do that. Help!

typically the VM's only go into a disconnected stated if/when your host goes into a disconnected/not responding state. An easy way to get this alarm to trigger is to right click on the host in which the guest is registered and choose disconnect. This will have no impact on the running VM's or Host, except to test your alarm. When complete, connect host back.
