          Welcome tothe Community,

I assume you set the network connection in the VM's settings to "Bridged"!?

Verify the IP address and subnet mask on the Linux guest is correct.

Can you ping the gateway address in the Linux guest?

            im using vmserver 2.1...

If you mean VMware Server 2 and not VMware ESX Server, then realize that VMware Server2 is not supported on a Windows 7 host.  VMware Server is only supported on server versions of Windows.  (i.e.: Windows Server 2003.)  Many strange little quirks are often reported with VMware Server 2 on Vista or Win7 hosts.

            guest os linux

            gateway :192.168.1.254

            primary dns : 192.168.1.254

            Windows IP Configuration

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

               IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.70

               Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

               Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254

VMware Server often will auto-bridge to the wired NIC instead of the wireless NIC.  Run the network configuration editor and set vnet0 to bridge to your wireless NIC.
