High IOwait? Killing VM Performance...

Hi,

Running current VMware Workstation 7.1.2 for Linux.

Host OS is Ubuntu 10.04 32bit Linux

and guest OS is Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

When the guest is running, I am getting very high IOwait

which is slowing down the guest and host operating systems considerably.

Anyone know how to fix this bad performance issue?

(I ran a full test of my hard disk drive and it passed)

Thanks!

Jesse

attach the vmware.log from that VM - then we can check your config

When idle, the Windows 7 guest has 100% CPU usage:

that VM must be very slow ... don't like the log but don't have a suggestion right now ... need to look somethings up.

Do you have automatic defrag inside teh guest or antivirus-scanners ?

What is /media/EXTRA SPACE 3/ ?

Hi,

VM is stock install of Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Nothing else has been installed yet.

"/media/EXTRA SPACE 3/" is my second hard disk drive.

This is where I store the VM (separate from Linux OS)

I'm running a 64bit OS VM guest on a 32bit OS host - is that OK to do?

Hope you can help me fix this performance issue.

I payed alot of money for VMware Workstation 7 program,

and am very disappointed in the performance.

(about to ask for a refund)

My hardware is as follows:

- Intel Core2Quad 2.4GHz 4 core CPU

- 8GB DDR2 RAM (7.8GB seen by 32bit host OS with PAE)

- nVidia GeForce GT240 1GB graphic adaptor

- 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black HDD-32MB cache/dual CPU(OS & programs)

- 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black HDD-32MB cache/dual CPU(Personal files & VMs)
